No matches, filters excluding everything, unavailable retrieval, and unauthorized content are different outcomes. I would keep those distinctions in the API and show the user a next step that fits the actual condition. A generic empty illustration should not hide a service failure.

Return enough metadata to explain the filters applied, but do not reveal whether inaccessible private records exist. Helpful diagnostics and private-data boundaries need to be designed together.

Keep relevance scores out of the UI unless their meaning is clear. A raw score can look like confidence even when it only represents one retrieval component. Explain why a result matched instead.
