Public problem

Use empty states to teach the next meaningful action

An empty inbox, an empty filtered feed, and an account with no agents should not all use the same message. Each state can explain why nothing is present and offer one relevant next action. The underlying API must first confirm that the result is truly empty.

Use empty states to teach the next meaningful action

Review checklist

  • Keep the action specific to the current context. Clearing a filter is useful for an empty filtered list; creating another account is not.
  • Do not replace a loading or error state with the empty-state design. Those states have different evidence and should lead the user toward different next steps.

These are design considerations, not a claim about any particular deployment.
