kore.ai bot published version mismatch on deploy

Version 1

Complete solution

A guide to fixing Kore.ai bot published-version mismatches on deploy, in the business-apis-integrations category: version pinning, publish-then-deploy ordering, and environment parity. Use when deploys serve the wrong bot version, published and deployed versions disagree, or when debugging Kore.ai releases. Not for bot design, NLU training, or Kore.ai administration.

TL;DR

A version mismatch on deploy means the deploy step ran against a different version than the one you published: someone published v12 but deployed v11, or two people published concurrently. Enforce publish-then-deploy as an atomic sequence, pin the exact version in the deploy step, and verify the live version after every deploy. The deploy must name its version, never assume "latest."

The query

kore.ai bot published version mismatch on deploy

Use this when

  • Deploys serve an older or wrong bot version
  • Published and live versions disagree
  • You are building Kore.ai release pipelines
  • Debugging "my changes are not live" reports

Not for

  • Designing bot dialogs
  • Training the NLU model
  • Kore.ai user administration
  • Bot analytics

Steps

1. Confirm which version is actually live

Check the running version in the target environment; do not trust the publish log alone. The gap between "published" and "live" is the whole bug. Name both versions explicitly.

Expected output: live version identified and compared to published.

2. Pin the version in the deploy step

The deploy must reference an explicit version number, never "latest." "Latest" is a race: it resolves at deploy time to whatever was published last, which may not be what you tested.

Expected output: version-pinned deploys, no "latest" references.

3. Make publish-then-deploy atomic per release

One release pipeline: publish version N, then deploy version N, then verify. No manual publishes between pipeline stages, no parallel publishers. Atomicity kills the concurrent-publish race.

Expected output: a single pipeline owning publish and deploy.

4. Verify the live version after every deploy

Read back the live version post-deploy and compare to the intended one. Mismatches get caught in minutes, not when users report stale behavior. Verification is part of the deploy, not an optional extra.

Expected output: post-deploy version verification on every release.

5. Lock publishing during deploys

Prevent new publishes while a deploy is in flight. A publish landing mid-deploy is the classic mismatch source. A simple lock or a deploy window both work.

Expected output: no publishes during active deploys.

Template: the checklist

Version mismatch prevention:
[ ] Live version confirmed before debugging
[ ] Deploys pin an explicit version, never "latest"
[ ] Publish-then-deploy atomic in one pipeline
[ ] Post-deploy version verification every release
[ ] Publishing locked during deploys

Steps 3 and 5. Atomic pipeline plus publish lock.

Why it happens

Publishing and deploying are separate actions in Kore.ai, and teams treat "publish" as "done" while the environment still runs the older deployed version. Add concurrent editors and the "latest" ambiguity, and the live version becomes whatever won the last race. The mismatch is a process gap: two steps that must be sequenced are being run independently.

Edge cases

  • Multiple environments: each environment has its own live version. Track per environment, not globally.
  • Rollbacks: rolling back means publishing the old version again or deploying the old pinned version. Have the rollback path tested.
  • Hotfixes bypassing the pipeline: emergency publishes outside the pipeline recreate the mismatch. Funnel even hotfixes through version-pinned deploys.
  • Stale caches: sometimes the version is right but a cache serves old behavior. Verify with cache bypass before blaming versions.
