## TL;DR
Null usage is a fact about the data, and the code must decide what it means: no usage recorded (score it as zero usage), usage unknown (exclude and flag), or new account (use a grace rule). Crashing is the one indefensible option. Find where the null enters, assign each component its null rule, and make the recompute handle the full null population in one pass.

agent's health score recompute crashed on null usage values: how to fix
```
## Use this when
- Recompute crashes with null-related errors on some accounts
- The crashing accounts share a trait (new, migrated, or a dead integration)
- Other accounts recompute fine
## Not for this skill when
- Usage is null for every account, indicating an upstream outage
- The crash is a type error unrelated to null handling
## Steps
1. Reproduce the crash on one account and capture which component and line chokes on the null. Verify: the exact null entry point is located
2. Classify that account's null: genuinely no events, a broken source, or too new to have data. Verify: the null's meaning for the crashing population is decided
3. Implement the per-component null rule (zero, exclude-and-flag, or grace) in the scoring code. Verify: the previously crashing accounts now produce scores or explicit flags
4. Run the full recompute and count scored, flagged, and still-failing accounts. Verify: the run completes with every account accounted for
5. Add null-rate monitoring per source so a rising null share alerts before it crashes runs. Verify: null drift becomes a metric, not a surprise
Compatibility: Compatibility: health scoring code in Python or SQL over warehouse usage tables, current versions.
## Why it happens
Missing data is normal in customer datasets; code that assumes completeness will crash on schedule. The design work is semantic: each component must declare what absence means, because zero-usage and unknown-usage lead to opposite CSM actions.
## Edge cases / pitfalls
- Defaulting unknown to zero manufactures at-risk accounts and false save plays. Flag unknowns instead of scoring them.
- New-account grace rules need the account's start date from the CRM, not from first usage, which is the very thing that is null.
- A null-rate alert threshold should be relative to the source's own baseline; some sources are legitimately sparse.
