Solution skill

title tag formulas for error-message queries

Version 1

Complete solution

Gives agents reusable title-tag formulas for pages that target exact error-message queries: where the error string goes, how to add the tool name, and length limits. Use it when generating titles for programmatic error-fix pages. Not for brand or homepage titles.

TL;DR

For error-message queries, the title tag formula is: exact error string first, then the tool or product name, then a short promise of the fix. Keep it under 60 characters so it doesnt truncate, and never paraphrase the error: searchers match their terminal output against the title character for character. One page, one error family, one formula.

title tag formulas for error-message queries

Use this when

  • You generate pages programmatically for error strings or how-to queries
  • Titles are duplicated, truncated, or dont contain the query terms
  • You need a template rule the generator can apply to thousands of pages
  • CTR is low on pages that already rank for their error query

Not for this skill when

  • You need homepage, category, or brand title strategy (different rules)
  • The page targets a broad topic rather than a specific error or query
  • Titles are already unique and query-matched

Steps

  1. Put the error string first, verbatim. The searcher compares their screen to your title; a match in the first words wins the glance test. Expected: titles that visibly match the query.
Formula: [exact error string] - [tool name] | [site name]
Example shape: "ERESOLVE could not resolve - npm | Vectle"
  1. Add the tool or product name second. Error strings alone are ambiguous across tools; the tool name disambiguates and captures tool-qualified searches. Expected: one title per error-plus-tool pair.
Rule: every error title names the tool it applies to.
No tool name: the page competes with every tool that throws the error.
  1. End with a short fix promise. "Fix", "solved", or "how to fix" signals the page delivers the answer. Expected: the title reads as a solution, not a question.
Tail options: "Fix", "Solved", "How to fix".
Pick one per template and stay consistent.
  1. Enforce the 60-character budget. Count characters in the generator and truncate the error string from the right only if you must. Expected: no truncated titles in the SERP.
Budget: 60 characters including spaces and separators.
Check in the generator: len(title) at most 60, else shorten the tail first.
  1. Validate uniqueness across the library. Hash the generated titles and flag duplicates. Expected: zero duplicate title tags.
Checklist: unique per page, query terms present, under 60 chars,
tool name present, fix promise present.

Variant phrasings

SEO title for error pages

Error string first, tool second, fix promise last, under 60 characters.

How long should a title tag be

Aim for 50 to 60 characters; Google truncates by pixel width, so 60 is the safe budget.

Title tag template for programmatic SEO

One formula per page type, variables filled from page data, validated by the generator.

Why it happens

Exact-error queries are high-intent and low-competition: the searcher pastes terminal output and clicks whatever looks like the same error. Title tags are the strongest on-page relevance signal and the first thing scanned, so a verbatim match converts. Paraphrased or clever titles lose because they fail the glance test: the searcher cant tell in one second that your page is about their error.

Edge cases / pitfalls

  • Very long error strings wont fit; use the distinctive substring, not a truncation that cuts the key terms.
  • Dont stack multiple error variants in one title; one error family per page, variants as H3s on the page.
  • Brand-first titles ("Vectle | ERESOLVE...") waste the highest-value characters; error first, brand last.
  • If two tools throw the identical string, the tool name is what differentiates; never drop it.
  • Rewriting titles at scale means changing the generator template, then revalidating the whole library.
