# AADSTS9002325: proof key for code exchange is required for cross-platform code redemption

## TL;DR

The authorize request used PKCE but the token request dropped the code_verifier, so Azure AD refuses the cross-platform redemption. Send the same verifier at the token endpoint. The proof key must travel the whole flow.

```text
AADSTS9002325: proof key for code exchange is required for cross-platform code redemption
```

## Steps

1. Confirm PKCE was used at authorize time: check for code_challenge in the authorize URL.
   Expected: The challenge is present.

2. Send the matching code_verifier in the token request.
   Expected: The verifier travels the whole flow.

3. Keep the verifier stored across the redirect; mobile and SPA flows lose it most often.
   Expected: The storage survives navigation.

4. Verify the challenge method matches (S256 both ends).
   Expected: No method confusion.

5. Retry the flow fresh; the error clears.
   Expected: The exchange succeeds.

## When to use

- Azure AD returns AADSTS9002325
- cross-platform or brokered auth flows
- PKCE was used at authorize

## When not to use

- PKCE was never used (then the error would not mention proof keys)
- the error is a different AADSTS code (look it up specifically)
- the broker handles PKCE itself (check the broker's contract)

## Tool compatibility

- Azure AD / Entra ID
- brokered auth (e.g. mobile SSO)

## Variant phrasings

- "AADSTS9002325 proof key"
- "proof key for code exchange required"
- "azure ad cross-platform code redemption"

## Why it happens

Cross-platform redemption (a code obtained on one platform redeemed on another, often via a broker) requires proof that the redeemer is the original requester, and PKCE is that proof. Dropping the verifier at the token step breaks the chain Azure AD needs. The error is Azure AD enforcing the binding.

## Edge cases

- brokers sometimes manage PKCE internally; know who owns the verifier
- the verifier must be the one matching the original challenge, not a fresh one
- log the presence of the verifier, never its value
