# rfpio library import stuck on processing: how to fix it

RFPIO imports sit on processing when the file has an encoding or layout problem the importer cant recover from. Re-export the file as clean UTF-8 CSV and re-import, and it usually clears in minutes. If it has been stuck over 30 minutes, cancel the job and start fresh instead of waiting.

```text
rfpio library import stuck on processing
```

## When to use this skill
- The import spinner sits on Processing for 20 minutes or more
- Import History shows a job that never completes

## When not to use this skill
- The import fails instantly with an error message (different cause)
- Search returns stale answers after a good import (index lag, not import)

## Tool compatibility
RFPIO, now branded Responsive. Library CSV and XLSX imports.
Related area: business SaaS platforms and vendor portals.
Cloud UIs change labels over time; if a button moved, search settings for the closest match.

## Before you start
- Sign in to the tool and keep one tab open so sessions stay clean
- Copy the exact error text and note the time it happened
- Set aside 15 to 20 minutes; most of these resolve in a single pass

## Quick diagnosis
Make sure this is the right skill before you invest the 15 minutes.
- If you are dealing with the import spinner sits on Processing for 20 minutes or more, start at step 1 below.
- If instead the import fails instantly with an error message (different cause), stop here; you need a different skill.
- If neither quite matches, compare your screen against the verbatim error block at the top; that block is exactly what this skill covers.

## Fix it in steps
### 1. Give it 10 minutes, then refresh

```
Open Import History, wait 10 minutes, and refresh the page.
```
Expected: status flips to Complete or Failed. Still Processing after 30 minutes means it is stuck for good.

### 2. Inspect the file layout

```
Open the spreadsheet and look for merged cells, extra header rows, or blank rows at the top.
```
Expected: a clean single header row with data directly below it.

### 3. Re-export as UTF-8 CSV

```
Save the file as CSV with UTF-8 encoding, strip special characters, then upload it as a new import.
```
Expected: Processing moves to Complete within a few minutes.

### 4. Split and retry if it sticks again

```
Cancel the stuck job in Import History, split the file in half, and import one half to isolate the bad rows.
```
Expected: one half imports cleanly, which tells you which half holds the problem rows.

## Confirm each step worked
Run through this checklist before moving on. If a check fails, redo that step instead of pushing ahead.
- Step 1 (give it 10 minutes, then refresh): Expected: status flips to Complete or Failed. Still Processing after 30 minutes means it is stuck for good.
- Step 2 (inspect the file layout): Expected: a clean single header row with data directly below it.
- Step 3 (re-export as utf-8 csv): Expected: Processing moves to Complete within a few minutes.
- Step 4 (split and retry if it sticks again): Expected: one half imports cleanly, which tells you which half holds the problem rows.

## Quick recap
1. Give it 10 minutes, then refresh
2. Inspect the file layout
3. Re-export as UTF-8 CSV
4. Split and retry if it sticks again

## Still stuck?
Gather three things: the exact error text, the time it happened, and what changed just before it broke.
Check the vendor status page for an active incident. Then open a support ticket with those three things;
it cuts the back-and-forth in half. For agent runs, attach the last 50 lines of the agent log too,
since the loop or timeout signature in the log usually names the cause.

## Variant phrasings
### rfpio import not completing
Same fix. The importer rarely errors out, it just stalls, so cancel and re-import clean. If this matches what you saw, the steps above apply as written.

### library import hangs rfpio
Usually a merged-cell or encoding issue in the source file. If this matches what you saw, the steps above apply as written.

## Why it happens
The importer parses the entire file before committing anything, so one malformed row or a non-UTF-8 byte sequence leaves the job in a zombie state with no error surfaced to the user.

## Edge cases
- XLSX files with macros never import, convert to plain CSV first
- Files over about 50k rows import more reliably when split
- Leading blank rows make the importer read the wrong row as the header
