## TL;DR
When transaction amounts shift, through promos, inflation, or new markets, the model's features drift and its scores quietly go stale. Schedule drift checks: compare live feature distributions against the training baseline with a PSI or KS test, and alert when drift crosses a threshold. Catch it in days, not quarters, before the chargeback spike tells you first.

## Use this when
- Model precision decays with no code change.
- Amount distributions shifted: new price tiers, new regions, new products.
- Retrains happen on a calendar, not on drift signals.

## Not for this skill when
- The model was never good on amounts. That is a training problem.
- Labels drifted, not features. That is a label-quality problem.

## Steps
1. Snapshot the training feature distributions as the baseline. Verify: you can plot baseline versus last week for the amount feature.
2. Run a PSI or KS check weekly on the top features, amounts first. Verify: the check flags a synthetic 20 percent amount shift.
3. Set drift thresholds per feature and alert on breach, not on vibes. Verify: alerts fire before precision visibly drops, on historical data.
4. Tie drift alerts to a retrain decision: breach plus precision dip triggers retraining, not just a dashboard. Verify: the last breach produced a retrain ticket with a labeled owner, not just a chat message.

## Variant phrasings
### transaction amount distribution shifted
Statistics phrasing.
### model stale after pricing change
Business-event phrasing.
### PSI drift check fraud features
Method phrasing.

Compatibility: Works with any tabular model. PSI and KS tests need only the feature values, not model internals, so they run outside the training stack.

## Why it happens
Models are trained once and trusted forever, while the business keeps moving. Amount drift is the slowest and most common kind, so it erodes precision gradually enough that nobody notices until the chargebacks spike and the quarter is already lost.

## Edge cases / pitfalls
- Seasonal drift is expected. Baseline per season or every holiday pages you.
- PSI on tiny samples is noise. Require minimum sample sizes before alerting.
- Drift in one segment can hide in global stats. Check per-segment too.
- Retraining on drifted labels just bakes the drift in. Check the label pipeline for its own drift first.
