## TL;DR
A 200 with no score in the body is not a successful scoring. It usually means the event was accepted for async processing, the requested abuse type is not enabled for that workflow, or your parser reads a field name the current API version moved. Log the raw response body for one failing call, confirm which abuse types your account returns synchronously, and make your code fail loudly when the score field it needs is absent instead of defaulting to zero or pass.

```text
sift score api returned 200 with empty score body
```

## Use this when
- Your database has transactions with a blank or zero Sift score and no error.
- The integration recently changed API version or SDK.
- Only one event type, for example login, returns empty scores.

## Not for this skill when
- Calls time out or return 4xx or 5xx. Those are transport and request errors with their own fixes.
- The score is present but looks wrong. That is a model or feature problem.

## Steps
1. Capture the full raw response body and headers for one affected call, unparsed, in your logs. Verify: you can read the exact body Sift returned.
2. Read the body for an async or queued status and for the score object matching your requested abuse type, comparing field names with the current API reference for your version. Verify: you can name whether the score is absent, renamed, or pending.
3. Confirm in the Sift console that the event was received and scored there; if the console shows a score, your request asked for a different abuse type or your parser missed the field. Verify: console and body agree on where the score lives.
4. Fix the cause: request the enabled abuse type, poll or use webhooks for async scores, or update the parser field path, then add a contract check that rejects a scoreless 200. Verify: a staged scoreless response now raises an alert instead of storing a blank.
5. Backfill: rescore or annotate transactions that silently stored no score during the affected window so reports stop treating them as low risk. Verify: the affected window is marked and no blank score reads as a pass.

## Variant phrasings
### sift score empty response 200
Status focused phrasing.
### sift returned no score for transaction
Missing score phrasing.
### blank sift score in database
Downstream symptom phrasing.

Compatibility: Sift Score API and Events API across API versions. Response shapes differ by version and by synchronous versus asynchronous scoring configuration, so verify against your pinned version.

## Why it happens
The events endpoint acknowledges receipt separately from scoring. A 200 confirms Sift accepted the event, and the score may ride along only for synchronously scored abuse types. Code that assumes score always equals present converts an acceptance receipt into a silent pass, which is worse than an error because nobody investigates a success.

## Edge cases / pitfalls
- A default score of zero on missing data looks like safest in reports and riskiest in reality. Make missing a distinct state.
- Multi abuse accounts can return one score and omit another. Check per abuse type, not per request.
- SDK upgrades can swallow this silently. Pin the SDK and diff its response models on upgrade.
