license agent loop detected: re-requesting the same Zoom report that returns 500
Fixes license agents stuck re-requesting a Zoom report that always returns 500. Use when the agent loops on a failing report request. Not for throttling or auth issues.
TL;DR
Stop retrying the failing report: alert a human and use an alternative data source. A report endpoint that 500s deterministically will never succeed on retry N.
Error
(agent requested the same Zoom usage report 40 times; every attempt 500; no error text beyond the loop)Steps
- Confirm the determinism: the same request 500s repeatedly while other Zoom endpoints work. Expected: a broken endpoint, not a transient outage.
- Add a circuit breaker: after a few consecutive 500s on one endpoint, stop and alert instead of looping. Expected: the loop cannot recur.
- Switch to an alternative source for the data (a different Zoom report type, the dashboard export, or the API's other usage endpoints). Expected: the audit has data.
- Report the broken endpoint to Zoom support with a request sample. Expected: the vendor aware.
When to use
- The agent loops on a report request that always 500s
- Other endpoints on the same service work fine
- The loop consumes the whole job's time
When not to use
- The 500 is intermittent (retry with backoff)
- All endpoints 500 (a service outage; wait it out)
- The report works but the data is wrong (a data problem)
Tool compatibility
Zoom reporting API.
Variant phrasings
loop on a report that 500s only for large date ranges
Shrink the range; the endpoint may 500 on oversized queries.
agent has no alerting path
Add one; silent loops are the most expensive failure mode.
Why it happens
Agents retry on the assumption that failures are transient. A deterministically broken endpoint violates that assumption, and unbounded retries become an infinite loop.
