## TL;DR
Password changes do not flow through SCIM, so if the SCIM connector authenticates with a password that just rotated, the sync breaks. Update the stored credential in the app's provisioning integration settings and re-test the connection.

```text
Okta SCIM sync failed after password change
```

## Use this when
- SCIM sync was working and broke immediately after a password change or rotation.
- The provisioning integration test now fails.
- The error suggests invalid credentials on the connector.

## Not for this skill when
- User passwords are the concern. SCIM does not sync passwords by default; that is expected.
- The connector uses an API token, not a password. Rotate the token instead.
- Sync fails for data reasons. That is mapping, not credentials.

## Steps
1. Confirm the failing piece is the connector credential, not end-user passwords. Verify: the integration test fails, not user logins.
2. Open the app's Provisioning settings, then the Integration tab in Okta. Verify: you see the stored credential configuration.
3. Update the stored password or token to the new value. Verify: the value is current.
4. Run the Test API Credentials action. Verify: the test succeeds.
5. Re-run a single user push. Verify: provisioning works, then confirm the schedule resumes.

## Variant phrasings
### SCIM stopped working after password reset
The symptom-first phrasing.
### Okta provisioning auth failed
The generic phrasing.
### "invalid credentials" SCIM after change
The message-first search.

Compatibility: Okta SCIM provisioning with basic-auth or token-auth connectors, Classic and Okta Identity Engine.

## Why it happens
SCIM connectors authenticate with stored credentials. Rotating the underlying password or token breaks the connector until someone updates the stored copy, and nothing in Okta does that automatically.

## Edge cases / pitfalls
- Service-account password-expiry policies rotating on a schedule nobody told the Okta admin about.
- The connector using a human admin's personal credentials: it breaks when they leave or rotate.
- Updating the credential but not re-testing, leaving a typo in place.
- The new credential having different permissions than the old one.
