Solution skill
intercompany AR on entity EU-03 is 12,400 higher than intercompany AP on entity US-02 after the netting run
Complete solution
Fixes intercompany AR on entity EU-03 being 12,400 higher than intercompany AP on entity US-02 after the netting run: compare the open intercompany items on both sides, find invoices recorded by one entity only, and repair netting exclusions. Use for intercompany reconciliation. Not for an intercompany loan interest disagreement.
TL;DR
After netting, the two sides should mirror each other, so EU-03 showing 12,400 more receivable than US-02 shows payable means transactions exist on one side only, or netting excluded items it should have swept. Extract the open intercompany items from both entities for the pair, with document numbers and dates, and join them: the unmatched residue will be the 12,400, typically an invoice EU-03 raised that US-02 never accrued, a payment in transit the netting run treated differently on each side, or an invoice US-02 recorded under a different group counterparty. Book the missing side or correct the counterparty, then rerun netting for the pair and confirm the residual is only genuine in-transit timing, documented with expected settlement dates.
intercompany AR on entity EU-03 is 12,400 higher than intercompany AP on entity US-02 after the netting runUse this when
- Intercompany AR and AP between two named entities, EU-03 and US-02, disagree by a specific amount after the netting run.
- One entity raises invoices the other accrues manually or through a different interface.
- A netting or settlement run happened between the two entities' close dates.
Not for this skill when
- The difference is pure FX translation on balances both sides agree in transaction currency. Use the translation process, not item matching.
- The pair's trading is disputed commercially. Resolve the underlying charges before reconciling the ledgers.
Steps
- Extract open intercompany AR items for EU-03 against US-02 and open AP items for US-02 against EU-03, in transaction currency, as of the same cut-off. Verify: both item lists describe the same moment and currency basis
- Match the lists by invoice number and amount, and total the unmatched items on each side. Verify: unmatched items sum to the 12,400 or isolate the unexplained remainder
- For each unmatched item, determine which side is missing the document and why: not accrued, wrong counterparty, or excluded from netting by status. Verify: every unmatched item has a cause and a correcting action
- Post the missing accrual or invoice, or correct the counterparty, in the open period with clear intercompany references. Verify: both ledgers now carry the same documents for the pair
- Rerun the netting or intercompany reconciliation report for the pair and document any remaining in-transit items with dates. Verify: the pair reconciles to zero or to named timing items only

Why it happens
Intercompany balances are two independent ledgers describing one relationship, maintained by different teams on different calendars. Invoices raised late in one entity's month, payments initiated centrally, and netting runs that only sweep items in a particular status all create one-sided populations. The netting run itself can widen the gap: it settles matched items on both sides but treats excluded items according to each side's local rules, so after netting the residue is concentrated and finally visible as one hard number.
Edge cases / pitfalls
- Cut-off discipline fixes most of this class: both entities close intercompany on the same date with the same in-transit rules.
- Counterparty coding errors compound across pairs; a group-wide counterparty check finds the same invoice missing from several recs.
- Document in-transit items with value dates; an in-transit item older than one cycle is a missing document, not timing.
