## TL;DR
Isolated sandboxes block outbound traffic by design, and products that phone home for license validation fail restores for a network reason disguised as a product error. Identify the license endpoints and ports the product needs, allow just those from the sandbox network, or install an offline or test license that does not need reachability, and document the exception in the sandbox design.

```text
agent's sandbox network blocked the license server and the restore failed
```

## Use this when
- Restores work in production but fail in the sandbox with license or activation errors.
- Sandbox firewall logs show blocked connections to vendor endpoints during restores.
- The product works in the sandbox only when the network is temporarily opened.

## Not for this skill when
- The license itself is expired or out of capacity everywhere. Licensing procurement problem.
- The sandbox blocks the backup repository, not the license server. Broader network design issue.

## Steps
1. Capture the product license error and the sandbox firewall denies for the same window. Verify: the blocked license destination is identified
2. Confirm the vendor documented license endpoints and ports for your product version. Verify: the required destinations list comes from vendor documentation
3. Choose the fix: a narrow firewall allowance for those endpoints, or an offline test license inside the sandbox. Verify: the chosen approach is approved and recorded
4. Apply the change to the sandbox network or license setup. Verify: the license check succeeds from inside the sandbox
5. Run a full restore test in the sandbox. Verify: the restore completes without license errors while other isolation remains intact

## Variant phrasings
### sandbox firewall blocks license activation restore
The firewall phrasing.
### isolated test network license server unreachable
The isolation variant.
### offline license restore test sandbox
The offline wording.

Compatibility: Restore sandboxes with egress filtering on VMware and cloud networks, for Veeam, Acronis, Commvault and OS activation dependent restores.

## Why it happens
Isolation is the sandbox point, but modern software assumes reachability for licensing, updates and telemetry, in that order of harm. License checks fail closed in many products, so a well-isolated sandbox reliably breaks restores in a way that looks like product failure. Scoped exceptions or offline licensing reconcile isolation with reality.

## Edge cases / pitfalls
- Windows activation inside restored VMs can also demand reachability or a KMS. Plan sandbox activation separately.
- Record every sandbox network exception with its reason. Exception creep quietly un-isolates sandboxes.
- If the vendor offers a license mode for labs, use it. It is cheaper than firewall archaeology.
