## TL;DR
Rolling back the workflow restores old logic but the world moved on: prompts, tool schemas, and model versions changed, and the old workflow calls things that no longer exist. Version the whole bundle, workflow plus prompts plus tool contracts, and test rollbacks before you need them. A rollback should be a supported, tested path, not a leap of faith under incident pressure.

## Use this when
- Decisions break right after a rollback.
- The old workflow references retired tools or prompt versions.
- Rollback is untested and done by hand under pressure.

## Not for this skill when
- The new version was the problem and the rollback worked. Then the rollback did its job.
- Decisions fail on the current version too. That is a current bug, not a rollback bug.

## Steps
1. Version the bundle: workflow, prompts, tool schemas, and model pins ship as one artifact. Verify: a rollback restores the exact bundle that was live, not just the workflow file.
2. Keep tool contracts backward compatible: old workflows call tools that still accept the old schema. Verify: the previous bundle's tool calls pass against current tools.
3. Test the rollback path in staging: roll back, run the decision suite, roll forward. Verify: the drill passes before the rollback is ever needed live.
4. Log the active bundle version on every decision. Verify: post-incident review can name the exact bundle behind any decision.

## Variant phrasings
### rollback broke agent decisions
Regression phrasing.
### old workflow incompatible after rollback
Compatibility phrasing.
### version rollback decision failures
Version phrasing.

Compatibility: Works with any agent framework that supports versioned deployments. The bundle concept maps to containers, configs, or workflow registries.

## Why it happens
Rollback restores the workflow file but not the ecosystem around it. Prompts moved, tools changed shape, and the old logic runs against a new world it was never tested with.

## Edge cases / pitfalls
- Long-lived rollbacks accumulate drift. Time-box them and re-roll-forward.
- Database migrations do not roll back with the workflow. Plan the data path separately.
- Feature flags can fake a rollback without restoring anything. Know which one you did.
- Keep the last three bundles deployable, not just the last one, so a double rollback still works.
