## TL;DR

The export failed because an Emburse field (category, department, project, or custom field) has no corresponding value in the ERP, or maps to a deactivated account. Open the Emburse-ERP mapping settings, find the unmapped or stale value named in the export error log, point it at the correct active ERP account, and re-run the export.

## Error

```text
Emburse: expense export to ERP failed  -  mapping error
```

## Steps

1. Open the failed export log in Emburse and identify the mapping error. Expected: the log names the Emburse value and the ERP field it failed to map to.
2. Open the Emburse ERP integration mapping settings. Expected: the mapping table shows the broken or missing entry.
3. Map the Emburse value to the correct active ERP account, department, or project code. Expected: every Emburse value used by the export has a valid ERP target.
4. If the ERP account was deactivated, choose its replacement account per the chart of accounts. Expected: the mapping points at an active account.
5. Re-run the export for the failed batch. Expected: the export completes and the expenses post in the ERP.

## When to use

- Emburse ERP export fails with a mapping error.
- A new expense category or department was added in Emburse but not mapped.
- The ERP chart of accounts changed and old mappings went stale.

## When not to use

- The export fails on authentication or connection errors.
- Expenses fail validation before the export stage.
- The ERP itself rejects the posted data for period reasons.

## Tool compatibility

Emburse with ERP integrations (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, and others; current 2026 releases). Admin role required for mapping changes.

### Variant phrasings

### emburse "unmapped value" on export

The mapping table lacks an entry for the value. Add the mapping.

### new category broke the emburse erp export

The category was created in Emburse without an ERP counterpart. Map it before the next export.

### chart of accounts change broke emburse sync

Deactivated accounts invalidate existing mappings. Remap to the replacement accounts.

## Why it happens

Emburse and the ERP speak different code lists: Emburse categories, departments, and custom fields must each translate to an ERP account or dimension. Any value without a translation, or translated to a deactivated account, fails the export. Mappings decay whenever either side changes its code list, which is why the error log always names the specific unmapped value.
