# currency agent formatted prices with wrong symbol for locale in checkout

## TL;DR

Fixes the checkout agent rendering prices with the wrong currency symbol for the shopper's locale. Format with the order currency and the shopper locale together. Use when checkout shows the wrong symbol. Not for wrong amounts.

## The error

```text
Checkout for a EUR order in the de locale shows the dollar sign.
```

## Fix it

### Step 1: Find the price formatting call

```bash
grep -rn "NumberFormat" src/checkout --include=*.ts | head -5
```

Expected: You find the formatter and its currency argument.

### Step 2: Pass the order currency explicitly

```bash
node -e "console.log(new Intl.NumberFormat('de-DE', {style:'currency', currency:'EUR'}).format(49.99))"
```

Expected: You see the correct symbol for the order currency.

### Step 3: Fix the call site and test checkout

```bash
node -e "console.log('confirm EUR orders show the euro sign in every locale')"
```

Expected: Prices show the right symbol.

## When to use this

- Checkout shows the wrong currency symbol
- The formatter uses the locale's default currency instead of the order currency

## When NOT to use this

- The amount is wrong, check the pricing logic
- The symbol is right but the format is off, check the locale

## Tool and version compatibility

- Intl.NumberFormat currency style
- Any checkout rendering pipeline

## Variant phrasings

### symbol right but code wrong

Some locales show the ISO code instead of the symbol. That is correct CLDR behavior.

### multi-currency cart mixes symbols

Format each line item with its own currency, not the cart default.

## Why it happens

Intl.NumberFormat defaults the currency to the locale's own when none is passed. A German shopper checking out a USD order sees the euro sign unless the order currency is passed explicitly.

## Edge cases

- Currency conversion and currency formatting are separate steps
- Zero-decimal currencies like JPY need no fraction digits
- Cached price strings go stale when the shopper changes currency
