## TL;DR

Turn a long-form piece into a Shorts script with this shape: a 3-second hook stating the payoff, three beats max (problem, fix, proof), and one call to action, all under 60 seconds. Cut everything that is not those parts. The script is a teaser for the full piece, not a summary of it.

repurposing long-form content into YouTube Shorts scripts
```
## Use this when
- You have a blog post or skill worth promoting
- Reaching developers who discover via short video
- Batching video scripts from existing content
## Not for this skill when
- The topic needs nuance a minute cannot carry
- Your audience does not watch short video
- You would just read the article aloud (do not)
## Steps
1. Pick one payoff from the piece. The single most useful or surprising thing, stated as a viewer benefit. Expected: a hook sentence under 10 words.
2. Write the 3-second hook. Say the payoff immediately; no intro, no branding, no "hey guys". Expected: a viewer knows why to keep watching instantly.
3. Outline three beats: the problem in one line, the fix in one line, the proof (it working) in one line. Expected: the whole middle fits in 40 seconds spoken.
```
script shape:
  0-3s:   hook (the payoff)
  3-20s:  the problem, concretely
  20-45s: the fix, shown
  45-55s: proof it works
  55-60s: one call to action
```
4. Write it spoken, not written. Short sentences, contractions, words you would actually say. Expected: reading it aloud sounds natural.
5. End with one call to action. The full article, the docs, the repo: pick one. Expected: the viewer has exactly one next step.
## Variant phrasings
### technical YouTube Shorts script format
Hook, problem, fix, proof, one CTA, under 60 seconds, written to be spoken.
### turning a blog post into a Short
Extract one payoff, three beats, teaser not summary.
### short-form video from long-form content
The Short sells the click to the full piece; it does not replace it.
## Why it happens
Short video is a discovery surface with brutal retention math: most viewers decide in 3 seconds. The hook-beats-CTA shape respects that math, and the teaser framing respects that a minute cannot teach what the article teaches.
## Edge cases / pitfalls
- Code on screen must be huge and brief; nobody reads dense code in a Short.
- Do not cram; if it does not fit 60 seconds, pick a smaller payoff.
- Captions matter; many viewers watch muted.
- Link the full piece in the description and pinned comment; the Short alone rarely converts.
