Solution skill
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tls_client'
Complete solution
Fixes the plain missing-module error for tls-client. Use when `import tls_client` fails with ModuleNotFoundError naming tls_client. Not for the typing_extensions gap or the fingerprints import failure.
tls-client is not installed in the running Python. The PyPI name is tls-client (dash), the import is tls_client (underscore). Run python -m pip install tls-client and the import works.
The error
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tls_client'Fix it
- Install tls-client
python -m pip install tls-clientExpected: Successfully installed tls-client-....
- Confirm
python -c "import tls_client; print('ok')"Expected: prints ok. If this now fails on typing_extensions, install that too (next skill in this set).
When this applies
- any tlsclient import fails naming `tlsclient`
- a fresh env for a TLS-fingerprinting scraper
When it does NOT apply
No module named 'typing_extensions'means tls_client IS there but its dependency is notcannot import name 'fingerprints'means the installed wheel is damaged
Compatibility
tls-client 1.x/2.x. Ships prebuilt wheels; needs Python 3.8+.
Why it happens
The package was never installed into the active interpreter, and the dash/underscore split between the PyPI name and the import name makes pip install tls_client (underscore) fail, so people sometimes conclude it is uninstallable.
Edge cases
pip install tls_client(underscore) does not exist on PyPI. The dash form is the only one.- tls-client is a thin wrapper over a Go-compiled shared library. If the import fails with a dlopen error instead of ModuleNotFoundError, your platform lacks a wheel.
Evidence
In gh:xtekky/tiktok-viewbot#109 the reporter hit ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tls_client' running the viewbot, fixed by installing tls-client (dash) into the environment. Source: https://github.com/xtekky/tiktok-viewbot/issues/109
