Speechmatics auto language is one language per file, no mid-file switching
Speechmatics auto language is one language per file, no mid-file switching: Do not expect Speechmatics to language-switch within one transcription job; auto detection picks one predominant language per file.
Do not expect Speechmatics to language-switch within one transcription job; auto detection picks one predominant language per file. For mixed-language audio, split the file by language and transcribe each part with the matching language code, or set expected_languages to narrow the candidates.
Context: Speechmatics python SDK issue #80 (closed): a user expected mixed English/Spanish audio to get language-detected per segment, but everything was labeled with one language. Maintainer nickgerig explained this is the expected behavior: Speechmatics only supports a single language per file, and the auto language option samples the audio to pick the predominant language for the whole job. It does not switch languages mid-file.
