intel agent browser automation failed on earnings call page

This skill fixes intel agent browser automation failures on earnings call pages. Use it when rendering fails or when choosing call content sources. It is not for automation setup bugs; the fix is fast failure detection, IR site checks, transcript providers, and registry marking.

Intel agent browser automation failed on the earnings call page

TL;DR

Browser automation fails on earnings call pages because of bot defenses, heavy players, and consent walls, and the agent's mistake is depending on the browser for content that exists elsewhere. The earnings call content, audio, transcript, and slides, is distributed through IR sites, wires, and providers. Detect the automation failure fast and switch to those sources instead of debugging the browser.

The error

(agent failed)
intel agent browser automation failed on earnings call page; timeout / element not found / navigation error

When this helps

  • browser automation fails on earnings call pages
  • an agent depends on rendering for call content
  • auditing automation-hostile sources
  • choosing between browser and provider sources

When it doesn't

  • the page works in a real browser; then the automation setup is the bug
  • you need the video itself; providers may not carry it
  • the failure is intermittent; retry once before marking hostile

Works with

Any browser automation plus curl. Page defenses are site-side.

Steps

1. Detect the automation failure fast with a timeout

import asyncio
async def load_call_page(url):
    try:
        await asyncio.wait_for(browser_goto(url), timeout=30)
        return "loaded"
    except asyncio.TimeoutError:
        return "automation_failed"
print("30s cap; failure is a signal, not a disaster")

Expected: A fast verdict. Thirty seconds is enough for any well-built page; more is a defense or a bug.

2. Skip the browser and check the IR site directly

curl -s -A "IntelBriefingBot/1.0" "https://YOUR-company/investors/events" -o events.html -w "HTTP %{http_code}\n"
grep -i -m 5 "webcast\|presentation\|transcript" events.html | head -8

Expected: IR event links. The call materials live here without any browser automation.

3. Pull the transcript from a provider

curl -s "https://api.YOUR-transcript-provider/v1/transcripts?ticker=[ticker]&latest=1" -H "your auth header key]" -o t.json -w "HTTP %{http_code}\n"
python3 -c "import json; print("transcript chars:", len(json.load(open("t.json")).get("transcript", "")))"

Expected: The transcript text. Providers serve the content the browser was struggling to render.

4. Mark the page as automation-hostile in the registry

import json
reg = json.load(open("sources.json"))
reg["https://YOUR-site/earnings-call"] = {"status": "automation-failed", "fallback": "ir site or provider"}
json.dump(reg, open("sources.json", "w"), indent=2)
print("page marked; future runs skip the browser")

Expected: A registry entry. The agent stops sending browsers at defended pages.

Other ways people phrase this

browser automation failed earnings call

The content exists elsewhere. IR sites and providers beat debugging the browser.

playwright timeout earnings page

Cap the wait, check the IR site, mark hostile on repeat failure.

agent browser failed call page

Automation failure is a routing signal. Switch sources.

Why it happens

Earnings call pages combine video players, bot defenses, and consent walls, which is a hostile environment for automation. The same content is published through IR sites and transcript providers designed for machine consumption. Depending on the browser for this content is choosing the hardest path.

Edge cases

  • Slides often accompany the call; IR sites host them as PDFs.
  • Live calls need the webcast; replays and transcripts cover everything after.
  • Some providers label speakers better than others; compare before committing.
  • A page that fails today may work tomorrow; re-probe on a schedule, not every run.
