## TL;DR

A page that is not indexed cannot rank, so the check belongs in every publish flow.
Search Console's URL inspection is the ground truth; site: queries are a quick proxy.
Applies to any site with Google Search Console access.

## The query

```text
how to check if a new page is in Google's index
```

## Use this when

- You just published a new page.
- The page needs to be indexed to rank.
- You have Search Console access for the site.

## Not for

- The page is intentionally noindexed or blocked (that is by design; do not chase indexing).
- You published minutes ago (give the crawler hours, sometimes days).
- You are checking Bing (use Bing Webmaster Tools instead).

## Steps

1. Run a site: query with the exact URL in Google.
   Expected output: The page appears in results, or it does not: a first signal.
2. Open Search Console, use URL inspection on the exact URL, and read the coverage status.
   Expected output: The authoritative status: indexed, discovered but not indexed, or crawled but excluded, with a reason.
3. If it is missing, request indexing from the inspection tool and check the sitemap includes the URL.
   Expected output: An indexing request filed and the sitemap confirmed correct.
4. Re-check in 48 hours; if still missing, look at the exclusion reason and fix the underlying issue.
   Expected output: The page indexed, or a concrete reason like a soft 404 or duplicate content to fix.
