## TL;DR

Expensify queues offline expenses locally, but after about 30 days the queued drafts can go stale: auth tokens expire, policy versions change, and the local queue may be pruned. Connect to stable wifi, open the app and pull to refresh to force a sync, and re-authenticate if prompted. Any drafts that never sync must be re-created from the receipt photos before the local data is cleared.

## Error

```text
expensify: offline expenses failed to sync after 30 days
```

## Steps

1. Connect the device to stable wifi and open the Expensify app. Expected: the app shows its connection status.
2. Force a sync: pull to refresh on the expenses list or use the app's sync action. Expected: the app attempts to upload the queued expenses.
3. If prompted, re-authenticate the Expensify account (the offline token likely expired). Expected: the app confirms a fresh session.
4. Check which queued expenses synced and which remain. Expected: synced expenses appear on the web; the remainder are identified.
5. For expenses that will not sync, re-create them on the web with the receipt photos (which are usually still on the device) and submit. Expected: the expenses exist server-side and the local queue can be cleared.

## When to use

- Offline Expensify expenses fail to sync after weeks offline.
- The app shows a long-unsynced queue after travel without connectivity.
- Re-authentication prompts appear on opening the app.

## When not to use

- A single expense fails to sync on a live connection (a different error).
- The expenses were never created offline at all.
- The device was wiped (the local queue is gone; only server data remains).

## Tool compatibility

Expensify mobile apps with offline mode (current 2026 releases). Applies to iOS and Android.

### Variant phrasings

### expensify "queued expenses" never uploaded

The local queue stalled. Force a sync on stable wifi.

### offline drafts disappeared in expensify

The local queue may have been pruned. Check the web; re-create from receipt photos if missing.

### expensify asks to log in again after offline use

The auth token expired during the offline window. Re-authenticate, then sync.

## Why it happens

Offline mode stores expenses in a local queue keyed to a session token. Long offline stretches let the token expire and the policy version advance, so the queued payloads no longer match what the server expects. Mobile OS storage pressure can also prune old local data. The recovery is always the same: fresh auth, forced sync, and manual re-creation for anything the queue lost.
