Solution skill
deno deploy error: 'no entry point found' in the deployment
Complete solution
Fixes Deno Deploy failures reporting no entry point found. Use when the deploy cannot locate the main module. Not for Deno runtime errors after startup, permission errors, or build failures.
TL;DR
Deno Deploy needs to know which file starts the app. When the entry point config is missing, misnamed, or the file is not included in the deployment, the deploy fails with 'no entry point found'. Point the config at the real entry file and ensure it is deployed.
The query
deno deploy error: 'no entry point found' in the deploymentUse this when
- The deploy fails naming the entry point.
- The project was restructured (files moved) recently.
- Deploying from a monorepo subdirectory.
Not for
- Runtime errors after the app starts (application bug).
- Permission or env errors at startup (config problem).
- Build step failures before deploy (fix the build).
Steps
Step 1: Confirm the entry file exists where the config says
Check the deploy config's entrypoint setting against the actual file tree.
Expected result: the named file exists. A rename or move without a config update is the usual cause.
Step 2: Fix the entrypoint path
Set the entrypoint to the correct relative path from the project root used at deploy time.
Expected result: the config names a file that exists in the deployed file set.
Step 3: Check the deployed file set
Exclude rules (like a gitignore-style deploy ignore) can omit the entry file even though it exists locally.
Expected result: the entry file is included in what gets uploaded. Adjust include rules if it was excluded.
Step 4: Verify from a clean checkout
Clone fresh, follow the documented deploy steps, and confirm the entry resolves.
Expected result: the deploy works without local-only files or paths. CI and fresh machines agree.
Step 5: Redeploy
Expected result: the deploy finds the entry point and starts the app.
Why it happens
Entry resolution depends on config, file layout, and the deployed file set agreeing. Restructures change the layout, monorepos change the root, and ignore files change the file set; any one of them silently breaks the agreement the config assumes.
Edge cases
- Case sensitivity: an entry named Main.ts vs main.ts works on macOS and fails on deploy. Match case exactly.
- The entry must be a valid Deno module with a default export or top-level server setup per the framework in use.
- Multiple deploy configs (preview vs production) can disagree. Check both.
- Framework adapters (Fresh, etc.) have their own entry conventions; follow the framework's documented entry, not a generic main.ts.
