Solution skill

salesforce error: INVALID_SESSION_ID on REST API call after the session expired

Version 1

Complete solution

Re-authenticates expired Salesforce sessions. Use for INVALID_SESSION_ID. Not for never-valid sessions.

TL;DR

The Salesforce session expired, so the REST call's session id is invalid. Catch INVALIDSESSIONID, re-authenticate (OAuth refresh or login), and retry the call with the new session.

Error

INVALID_SESSION_ID: Invalid session id

Steps

  1. Catch INVALIDSESSIONID on API calls Expected: expired sessions are detectable.
  2. Re-authenticate: refresh the OAuth token or log in again Expected: you have a fresh session.
  3. Retry the failed call with the new session id Expected: it succeeds.
  4. Add proactive refresh before expiry Expected: sessions stop lapsing mid-run.

When to use

  • INVALIDSESSIONID on Salesforce REST calls
  • Sessions expire mid-run

When not to use

  • The session id was never valid (then the login itself failed)
  • The org locked the session (then check IP restrictions)

Tool compatibility

  • Salesforce session management
  • CRM integrations

Variant phrasings

salesforce invalidsessionid

The session expired. Re-authenticate and retry.

invalid session id rest api

Same: catch it, refresh, retry with the new session.

Why it happens

Sessions have timeouts and agents run long jobs. The first call works, the fiftieth does not, and the error looks like an auth bug.

Edge cases

  • Session settings (timeout, IP lock) live in the org's setup; check them if expiry is frequent
  • OAuth refresh tokens also expire; handle that path too
