Solution skill
fraud agent's rule test ran against production traffic
Complete solution
Isolates fraud agent rule testing from production: runs tests against a mirrored sandbox or historical replay, blocks test execution when the target environment is live, and tags test traffic so it can never train models or trigger fulfilment. Use when an agent test evaluated rules on real orders. Not for shadow mode on live traffic, which observes real orders without acting and is a separate approved pattern.

Instructions
TL;DR
A rule test that runs against production is not a test; it is an unreviewed deploy with extra steps. If an agent test harness points at the live rules engine, its sample transactions are real orders and its decisions really block, review, or pass them. Isolate testing properly: the harness must target a sandbox environment or a replay of historical transactions, the agent must verify the environment identity before running, and any test that finds itself pointed at production must refuse to run and report the misconfiguration. Test traffic that must touch shared systems gets tagged end to end so it never reaches fulfilment, customers, or model training.
fraud agent's rule test ran against production trafficUse this when
- Real orders show decisions from a test run or a test rule.
- The agent test configuration inherits production credentials or endpoints.
- Customers were contacted or blocked by a test scenario.
Not for this skill when
- Approved shadow evaluation on live traffic with no actions taken. That is observability, governed by its own review.
- Load testing a staging environment that mirrors production. That is the correct pattern, keep doing it.
Steps
- Quarantine the impact: find every order the production test touched, reverse any customer facing effect, and note the exposure for the incident record. Verify: each affected order is restored and listed.
- Audit the harness configuration: endpoints, credentials, and environment labels for every test path the agent can invoke. Verify: you can show which configuration allowed a production target.
- Add an environment guard: before any test run, the harness resolves the target environment identity from the service itself and aborts if it reports production. Verify: a deliberately mispointed test aborts with the guard message in staging.
- Move rule tests to replay: a maintained set of historical fraud and legitimate transactions with expected outcomes, run in the sandbox, as the default test corpus. Verify: the agent test suite passes against replay with no live calls in the logs.
- Tag unavoidable shared system test traffic with a test marker honoured by fulfilment, notifications, and training pipelines. Verify: a tagged test order produces no shipment, no customer message, and no training row.

Accident phrasing.
rule test environment isolation fraud
Isolation phrasing.
test traffic leaked into production fraud
Leak phrasing.
Compatibility: Stripe test mode, Sift sandbox, Kount test environment, and internal staging mirrors, with any agent test harness. Environment identity checks should use the service reported environment, not a config string the harness wrote itself.
Why it happens
Agents treat environments as labels, and labels are whatever the config file says. A copied production config, a default endpoint, or a credential shared for convenience silently converts the sandbox into production while every label still says test. Humans catch this by recognizing real customer names; agents have no such instinct, so the guard has to be mechanical.
Edge cases / pitfalls
- Production data in a sandbox for realistic replay must be anonymized and access controlled. Realistic does not require real personal data.
- Some vendor sandboxes behave differently from production in scoring. Note the known deltas so a sandbox pass is not over trusted.
- Keep one deliberately production pointed test in the drill calendar, with approval, to prove the guard still aborts. Guards rot untested.
