ECS on EC2: run one Datadog agent container per EC2 host as a daemon service task definition. ECS on Fargate is a different integration with its own docs page. Not the full reference manual.
DD_SITE tells the agent which Datadog region your org lives in. US1 is datadoghq.com, EU is datadoghq.eu, plus us3, us5, ap1, ap2 and gov sites. Wrong site means a healthy-looking agent that never shows up.
The agent logs 403 Forbidden on intake payloads when the API key is wrong, revoked, or belongs to another region. Data stops flowing but the agent keeps running. Not for different error messages.
Datadog answers 429 Too Many Requests when you exceed API rate limits. Back off, honor Retry-After, and stop hammering the endpoint that throttled you. Not the full reference manual.
