pip install whylogs fails on Windows: No matching distribution for whylabs-datasketches

On Windows 10 with a conda Python 3.8 env, pip install whylogs==0.4.8 fails with ERROR: No matching distribution found for whylabs-datasketches==2.2.0b1. The same install works on Linux. The protobuf import error was a red herring from the stale 0.1.5 install.

The root cause was that whylabs-datasketches had no prebuilt wheel for Windows, so pip could not resolve the dependency on Windows while Linux installed fine. The maintainers published Windows binaries for whylabs-datasketches 2.2.0b1 (2021-08-24) and closed the issue. The workaround before that was to run whylogs under WSL. If you hit this on an old pin, upgrade whylabs-datasketches.
