how to find unanswered threads in your niche on phpBB

TL;DR

phpBB exposes unanswered-post views that most searchers never use. Answering real unanswered questions is the highest-signal forum contribution you can make. Works on stock phpBB 3.3 instances; custom themes may rename the links.

The query

how to find unanswered threads in your niche on phpBB

Use this when

• You do outreach or support on phpBB forums.
• You want high-signal threads where a real answer builds credibility.
• You need a triage method for picking which threads to answer.

Not for

• The forum is Discourse or NodeBB (use their own search operators instead).
• You want to bump old answered threads (that annoys moderators; answer unanswered ones).
• Your goal is posting links rather than helping (answer first, link later).

Steps

1. Open the forum index and look for the built-in 'unanswered posts' link near the search bar or use search with the unanswered filter. Expected output: A list of threads with zero replies across the forum.

2. Narrow by your niche: search the thread titles for your tool's keywords and sort by start date, newest first. Expected output: 5 to 15 recent unanswered threads where your expertise applies.

3. Triage: skip threads older than 60 days, skip ones clearly answered by the asker elsewhere, pick the ones with a clear question. Expected output: A shortlist of 3 to 5 threads worth a real answer.

4. Answer the question fully with no links; mention the tool by name only if it is the direct answer. Expected output: The reply stands as genuine help and builds the account's credibility.
