ramp: accounting sync failed - chart of accounts mismatch
Fixes Ramp's accounting sync failure by aligning Ramp categories with the current chart of accounts. Use when a Ramp accounting sync fails with a chart-of-accounts mismatch. Not for authentication failures on the accounting connection.
TL;DR
Ramp tried to post transactions to general-ledger accounts that do not exist, are deactivated, or were renamed in the accounting system. Open the Ramp accounting integration's category mapping, find the mappings the sync error log names, point them at active accounts in the current chart, and re-run the sync.
Error
ramp: accounting sync failed - chart of accounts mismatchSteps
- Open the failed sync log in Ramp's accounting integration. Expected: the log names the Ramp categories and the missing or invalid GL accounts.
- Open the category-to-account mapping in the Ramp accounting settings. Expected: the mapping table shows the stale entries.
- In the accounting system, confirm the current chart of accounts and the correct active account for each category. Expected: you have the right target accounts.
- Update the Ramp mappings to the active accounts. Expected: every mapped category points at an existing, active account.
- Re-run the accounting sync. Expected: the sync completes and transactions post to the ledger.
When to use
- Ramp accounting sync fails with a chart-of-accounts mismatch.
- The accounting system's chart changed and Ramp mappings went stale.
- New Ramp categories were added without GL mappings.
When not to use
- The sync fails on authentication or connection errors.
- Transactions fail validation before the sync stage.
- The accounting period is closed (a period problem, not a mapping problem).
Tool compatibility
Ramp with accounting integrations (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, Sage Intacct; current 2026 releases). Admin role required for mapping changes.
Variant phrasings
ramp "account not found" on sync
The mapped GL account was renamed or deactivated. Remap to the active account.
new gl accounts broke the ramp sync
The chart changed underneath the mappings. Update the mapping table.
ramp sync partial failure on categories
Some categories mapped, others did not. Fix the unmapped ones the log names.
Why it happens
Ramp and the accounting system maintain separate code lists, joined by the category mapping table. Charts of accounts change: accounts are renamed, deactivated, or restructured, and new Ramp categories arrive without mappings. Any mapped account that no longer exists fails the sync. The error log always names the specific broken mapping, which makes this a targeted fix rather than a reconnection.
