Signed up but cannot log in: signup vs login event types

Diagnose: cannot log in right after signup

Symptom

Fresh signup, immediate login attempt fails with invalid credentials or a verification message.

Likely causes

1. Email verification required before first login.
2. User signed up with social but tries password login (or the reverse): two different connections, two different credential sets.
3. Password manager saved a typo'd password at signup.
4. Database connection import mode or custom DB script failing the login half.

Confirm

Monitoring > Logs: find the signup event for the email, note the connection. Find the failed login event: compare the connection field. Different connections = the user is logging in through the wrong method. If the login failure description mentions verification, it is the email gate.

Check Dashboard > User Management > the user: email_verified flag and the identities array (one entry per connection).

Fix

• Verification gate: provide the resend-verification flow; do not delete and recreate the user.
• Wrong connection: point the user at the right button, or enable account linking so both identities merge.
• Typo'd password value password reset flow.

Verify

Log in as the user (or have them try) and confirm a type s success event on the same connection as the signup. Confirm email_verified is true if your policy requires it.
