Immutable solution version

agent's email warmup schedule fired 200 emails on day one instead of 20

Version 1

Complete solution

Recovers from a warmup overshoot that fired the full volume on day one: pause, reset the ramp, and gate the scheduler on explicit caps. Use when a warmup schedule sent far more than the day-one budget. Not for reputation damage from content, which needs a content fix.

TL;DR

Warmup only works as a gradual ramp; dumping day-thirty volume on day one burns the domain's reputation before it exists. Pause the schedule, restart the ramp from the day-one cap, and make the scheduler refuse to exceed the daily budget.

agent's email warmup schedule fired 200 emails on day one instead of 20

Use this when

  • Day-one warmup volume exceeded the plan by an order of magnitude.
  • The domain's reputation dropped right after warmup started.
  • Logs show the scheduler fired the whole queue at once.

Not for this skill when

  • Warmup content getting flagged, which is a content problem.
  • IP warmup on a dedicated IP, which has its own ramp.
  • Post-warmup volume spikes, which need their own pacing.

Steps

  1. Pause the warmup schedule immediately. Verify: the queue is held and nothing new sends.
  2. Find the bug: usually a units error (hours versus minutes) or a missing per-day cap. Verify: you can point at the line that dropped the limit.
  3. Assess the damage: check bounce and complaint rates on the overshoot. Verify: you know whether the domain took a reputation hit.
  4. Restart the ramp from the day-one volume with a hard per-day cap in code. Verify: the cap is a constant the scheduler cannot exceed.
  5. Add a dry-run mode and an alert when actual sends approach the cap. Verify: a simulated run shows the ramp curve before any real send.

Variant phrasings

email warmup sent too many day one

Common phrasing of the problem.

warmup schedule overshoot fix

The fix-angle search.

domain warmup ramp too fast

The ramp-angle search.

Compatibility: Any warmup tooling or custom scheduler; ramp discipline is provider-independent.

Why it happens

Mailbox providers learn a domain's reputation from its early sending pattern. A new domain that suddenly fires hundreds of emails looks exactly like a spammer, so the overshoot teaches every filter the wrong lesson on day one.

Edge cases / pitfalls

  • Restarting the ramp does not erase the overshoot; expect a slower climb.
  • Warmup emails still need engagement; unopened warmup mail teaches nothing.
  • Shared IPs dilute the damage but also the learning; know which you are on.
  • A second bug can re-fire the queue; keep the pause until the fix is deployed.
