Solution skill

ENTITY_NOT_UPDATEABLE" salesforce error

Version 1

Complete solution

Checks object updateability and profile rights. Use for ENTITY_NOT_UPDATEABLE. Not for locks.

TL;DR

The object does not support updates through the API (or your profile lacks edit rights). Check the object's API properties and your profile's edit permission.

Error

ENTITY_NOT_UPDATEABLE

Steps

  1. Check the object's describe: is it updateable Expected: you confirm the API property.
  2. Check your profile's edit permission on the object Expected: you know if it is rights.
  3. Use the supported path (some objects need special handling) Expected: the change goes through.
  4. Or ask the admin for the right access Expected: rights are fixed.

When to use

  • ENTITYNOTUPDATEABLE
  • The object or profile blocks updates

When not to use

  • The object is updateable (then check record-level locks)
  • You need mass updates (then use the right tool)

Tool compatibility

  • Salesforce object permissions
  • API update calls

Variant phrasings

entitynotupdateable

The object does not support API updates, or your profile lacks edit.

ENTITYNOTUPDATEABLE

Same: check object properties and profile rights.

Why it happens

Some objects are read-only by design (history, share tables). Agents try to update them like normal records.

Edge cases

  • Updateable in UI but not API happens too; check both flags
  • Field-level edit rights are separate from object edit rights
