NetSuite "amounts do not match: statement line total 4,209.10 vs transaction total 4,209.01" error on the credit card...

Version 1

Complete solution

Fixes the NetSuite error amounts do not match statement line total 4,209.10 vs transaction total 4,209.01 on the credit card rec: locate the nine-cent difference in fees, splits or a keyed amount, and correct the transaction side. Use with NetSuite Match Bank Data. Not for a statement import that is missing whole lines.

TL;DR

The statement says 4,209.10 and the NetSuite transactions sum to 4,209.01, a nine-cent gap that blocks the match. Nine cents almost never means a missing transaction; it means one transaction was keyed or split slightly wrong, a small fee or cashback line was absorbed into a charge, or tax-inclusive amounts were split with rounding. In Match Bank Data, open the statement line's candidate transactions and compare them one by one against the card statement detail, including any split lines. Correct the wrong transaction amount or add the missing fee line, then rematch. Editing the imported statement line to force agreement destroys the evidence the rec exists to check, so always fix the book side.

NetSuite "amounts do not match: statement line total 4,209.10 vs transaction total 4,209.01" error on the credit card rec

Use this when

  • NetSuite credit card or bank matching stops with an amounts-do-not-match message and a small cent-level difference.
  • The statement line is a grouped or split transaction such as travel, fuel or a marketplace charge.
  • The difference is under a dollar and the transaction count looks right.

Not for this skill when

  • Whole statement lines are missing from the import. Fix the statement import or file, not individual matches.
  • The difference is a round amount equal to another known charge. That is a missing or duplicate transaction problem.

Steps

  1. Open the failed match in Match Bank Data and list the transactions NetSuite grouped against the 4,209.10 statement line. Verify: the candidate transactions and their total of 4,209.01 are displayed
  2. Compare each candidate with the card statement detail, checking splits, taxes, tips and small fee or adjustment lines. Verify: the transaction carrying the nine-cent error is identified
  3. Correct the book transaction: fix the keyed amount or split, or create the missing fee or adjustment transaction with the right date and account. Verify: the transaction total now sums to 4,209.10 exactly
  4. Rematch the statement line and confirm NetSuite clears it without a manual difference posting. Verify: the line shows matched and the rec difference for the account drops accordingly
  5. Check the rest of the statement for the same pattern from the same merchant or import source before closing the rec. Verify: no other lines carry the same cent-level pattern, or they are fixed in the same pass

Why it happens

NetSuite matching is exact: a statement line can only clear against transactions summing to the same amount, because anything looser would let real errors pass as rounding. Cent-level gaps come from how charges are recorded - receipts rounded per line, fees netted by the card network, tips added after authorisation - while the statement reports the settled total. The nine cents is the fingerprint of a recording difference on one transaction, not a bank error.

Edge cases / pitfalls

  • Authorised-versus-settled amounts differ on hotels and fuel; match on the settled figure from the final statement, not the receipt estimate.
  • Cashback and rewards credits sometimes net inside a statement line; record them as their own transaction so the match stays transparent.
  • If the same merchant produces cent gaps monthly, fix the expense template or integration mapping rather than hand-correcting forever.
