ebanx payment rejected by the acquirer: boleto expired before confirmation
Handles Ebanx payments rejected by the acquirer because the boleto expired before confirmation. Covers reissuing the boleto with a fresh expiration and guiding the customer. Not for card declines or fraud rejections.
TL;DR
A Brazilian boleto is a payment slip with an expiration date: if the customer does not pay before it lapses, the acquirer rejects the payment. Generate a new boleto for the order with a fresh expiration date and send it to the customer, then confirm payment against the new slip. Treat the expired boleto as dead; it cannot be revived.
ebanx payment rejected by the acquirer: boleto expired before confirmationUse this when
- Ebanx reports the payment rejected by the acquirer on an expired boleto
- A customer paid after the slip's expiration date
- You issue boletos and need an expiration policy
Not for this skill when
- The boleto is rejected for invalid customer data
- The payment method is a card rather than boleto
- You are debugging Ebanx API authentication
Steps
Confirm the rejection reason is boleto expiration, not a data or fraud issue. Expected: You know the slip lapsed.
Generate a new boleto for the same order through Ebanx with a new expiration date. Expected: A fresh, payable slip exists.
Send the new boleto to the customer with the expiration date clearly stated. Expected: The customer has a valid slip and a deadline.
Monitor for the payment confirmation against the new boleto. Expected: The order is marked paid on confirmation.
Set your boleto expiration window to match your dunning or reminder cadence. Expected: Future slips expire on a schedule you control.
Tool compatibility
Ebanx payments API boleto issuance; expiration is a property of the boleto, enforced by the acquirer.
Variant phrasings
ebanx boleto expired rejected
Short form of the same acquirer rejection.
reissue boleto ebanx
The fix action as a search phrase.
boleto expiration before payment confirmation
The timing problem described generally.
Why it happens
Boletos are asynchronous: the slip is issued now and paid later at a bank or lottery agent, so every slip carries an expiration date bounding that window. Acquirers will not honor payment against an expired slip because the underlying collection agreement has lapsed. When confirmation arrives after expiry, or never arrives, the payment is rejected. Reissuing with a new date creates a new collection agreement; the old slip stays dead.
Edge cases / pitfalls
- Do not accept proof of payment against the expired slip; only the new boleto's confirmation counts.
- Weekends and holidays compress the effective payment window in Brazil; set expirations accordingly.
- If a customer repeatedly lets slips expire, offer an instant method like Pix as the default.
