executive sponsor changed: sponsor alert failed to fire

Export

Fixes a sponsor-change alert that failed to fire when the executive sponsor changed by checking the data sources the alert watches. Use after a sponsor change surprised the account team. Not for a change the alert caught but the team did not act on.

TL;DR

Sponsor alerts watch structured fields, but sponsor changes happen in unstructured places first: the sponsor's name disappears from meeting invites, a new executive joins calls, the CRM contact's title changes at their company, not in your system. Reconstruct how this change was knowable and from which source, then point the alert at that source.

executive sponsor changed: sponsor alert failed to fire

Use this when

  • The executive sponsor changed and no alert fired
  • A successor attended meetings or appeared in threads before the team noticed
  • The alert depends on CRM contact fields the customer never updates for you

Not for this skill when

  • The alert fired to a former account owner and died in their queue
  • The sponsor moved internally and the relationship is intact

Steps

  1. Reconstruct when the change happened and the earliest observable trace in your systems. Verify: the earliest signal and its source are identified
  2. List the alert's current inputs and conditions as configured. Verify: the watched sources are enumerated
  3. Compare: the source holding the earliest trace is either unwatched or the condition missed it. Verify: the alert's specific blindness is named
  4. Add that source (meeting attendee changes, contact title monitoring, or engagement shift) to the alert with a human verification step. Verify: a simulated sponsor change on a test account raises the alert
  5. Route sponsor alerts to both the CSM and AE with an acknowledgement requirement. Verify: an alert cannot die unread in one person's queue again

Why it happens

Alerts can only watch what is captured, and sponsor reality is captured in calendars and threads long before it is captured in contact records. Tracing the earliest observable signal tells you which capture to build, instead of endlessly tuning thresholds on a source that learns last.

Edge cases / pitfalls

  • Title-change data from enrichment vendors lags and errs. Use it as a prompt to verify, never as the alert's sole basis.
  • A sponsor change is also an opportunity: the departed sponsor's new company is a prospect. Route that signal to sales with the customer's blessing handled carefully.
  • Acknowledgement requirements need an escalation if unacknowledged in days, or they become another unread queue.
