Solution skill
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tlslite'
Complete solution
Explains why `import tlslite` throws ModuleNotFoundError and how to fix it with `pip install tlslite-ng` (not tlslite). Use when the import fails. Not for TLS handshake errors.
When it applies
Not specified by the original author.
Instructions
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tlslite'
TL;DR: the maintained distribution is called tlslite-ng, not tlslite. Run pip install tlslite-ng and the import works.
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tlslite'The fix
pip uninstall -y tlslite
pip install tlslite-ngVerify:
python -c "import tlslite; print('ok')"Expected output: ok.

When this applies
- Code importing tlslite directly or via libraries that use it for TLS.
- You ran
pip install tlsliteand got the dead original. - Old security-tooling dependencies.
When it does NOT apply
- TLS handshake or cipher errors after the import works.
- Modern TLS needs, where the stdlib ssl module is usually the better choice.
Why this happens
tlslite-ng is a fork that kept the module name but took a new distribution name, and the original tlslite was abandoned. pip installs exactly what you name, so the obvious guess gets you the dead package. Always check which fork is maintained before installing old crypto libraries.
Compatibility
tlslite-ng 0.8+ on Python 3.6+. Pure Python with optional crypto backends.
Evidence
The module is tlslite but the maintained distribution is tlslite-ng; the original tlslite on PyPI is dead. The tlslite-ng project page documents pip install tlslite-ng as the install command and notes it provides the tlslite package. Installing the dead tlslite distribution gives an ancient version that breaks on modern Python, so the fix is making sure tlslite-ng is what gets installed.
